IPM 2020 Poster Artwork Unveiled
Admiration for Plowing Inspires IPM 2020 Poster Artwork Sunderland’s
Lynda Cunningham donates original painting
KAWARTHA LAKES – The moment Lynda Cunningham saw her first Plowing Competition, she fell in love with its beauty – the interaction between competitors and their horses, the respect for the land. That was about 20 years ago, when Horse Plowing was featured as a demonstration during the Sunderland Fall Fair.
“I admire the amount of skill and patience needed by both the teamsters and their teams. I truly believe working the land with horses is an art,” she says. “The admiration I have for those who chose to follow this way of life is reflected in my paintings.”
Lynda has been painting plowing ever since, with her work shown in a large number of exhibitions. Now an original piece of hers will be featured prominently on the 2020 International Plowing Match & Rural Expo (IPM) event poster.
“I was quite pleased for the opportunity to be involved,” Cunningham says of being approached to take part in the project. “I have gone to a lot of Plowing Matches over the years.”
Artwork for the IPM 2020 poster was unveiled today (Wednesday, March 4) during the East Central Farm Show at the Lindsay Exhibition Grounds, where the IPM’s Tented City will be located. Event parking, an RV Park and Plowing Competitions will be on nearby fields.
“We are extremely grateful to Lynda for volunteering her time and immense talents to create this breath-taking painting,” says Sheila Marshall, President of the Ontario Plowmen’s Association, parent host of the IPM. “Her work will add to the excitement in the community and help attract people from elsewhere in Ontario and beyond.”
The poster – featuring both horse and tractor plowing competitors, as well as onlookers and Tented City – will be distributed throughout the province to raise awareness of IPM 2020, which runs Wednesday, October 14 to Saturday, October 17.
Lynda is a self-taught artist who enjoys working with a variety of media out her Sunderland farm studio. Lynda and her family raise sheep and Clydesdale horses.
